Model-Based Design of Bioreactors and Bioprocesses

Ph.D. Position

Industrial biotechnology is undoubtedly a key pillar for the successful establishment of a circular economy. To compete with today’s fossil-based production methods, sustainable bioprocesses must meet key performance parameters such as product/substrate yield and productivity. In collaboration with an industry partner, an EU-funded project aims to develop a new production process for a basic chemical, scaling it up to industrial production levels. The work, planned to last three years, builds on successful preliminary research.

Applicants should have a proactive attitude. They should have an interest in simulation and modeling and, ideally, prior experience in simulating bioprocesses and using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation software. They must also hold a master’s degree in bioprocess engineering or (chemical) and bioengineering.

The position is scheduled to begin in December 2026 and is remunerated at 75% of the E13 salary grade.

The University of Stuttgart is committed to increasing the proportion of women in its workforce and is therefore particularly interested in applications from women. Individuals with severe disabilities will be given priority in hiring if equally qualified.
