My research focus is the systematic understanding of intra- and subcellular metabolism in pro- and eukaryotic cells. The detailed quantification of metabolic in vivo fluxes enables the clarification of underlying regulatory networks and the actual cellular physiological state. This requires a concerted application of stable isotopic tracer studies (e.g. ¹³C), cultivation and sampling strategies, advanced mass spectrometry platforms and protocols, as well as mathematical modeling concepts. Obtained data sets allows a straightforward optimization of production strains and provides new insights for biomedical applications.
